ABOUT THE ARTIST

Giedre Zumbakis, born in Lithuania, lives in the Chicago area since 1949. She studied art at the St. Xavier College, where she earned a Bachelor of Art degree in 1961. She continued her studies of art at the Art Institute of Chicago and Northwestern University. After earning a Master of Fine Art degree in Graphics at Northwestern in 1976, Giedre taught art at primary and secondary schools, worked as an assistant at Northwestern University, and is currently on the faculty of the North Shore Art League in Winnetka, Illinois.

Over the years, Giedre Zumbakis has worked in various media. Her special focus now is creating one-of-a-kind colored prints. Giedre says: "My own quest is to give form and meaning to the ambiguous and unknown through my art. The abstract elements of line, shape, color, and texture combine in my work with certain recurring natural phenomena (leaves, branches, mountains, etc.) to form lyrical abstractions that represent my thoughts and feelings."
