GREEN SEA OF DARKNESS takes place in the eighties of the previous century. It begins in Greenwich Village, then moves to Paris, England, and back to France. Interwoven in the action Irishness prevails. He wants to write but in the meantime becomes a member of the Irish Republican Army. The birth of a warrior is accompanied by the gradual demolition of the budding writer. Gwenole's love for Maeve, instead of bringing him closer to life fills his mind with delusions. He loses his destiny in the murky world of politics, though the story ends in California without a conclusion. Clearly others are ready yo make similar choices to enter the same riverbed of dreams. A distant echo of Sherwood Anderson and Joseph Conrad is present in the author's charismatic prose. As Keith Botsford wrote about his Feast of Fools the writer is "absolutely sui generis. Everyone knows that he goes where no one else goes, and sees what others don't see. His book are neither central nor marginal. When political, they are political in an unpolitical way"
HENRYK ZADORA has writtten numerous books and short stories. He has been widely published and acclaimed in his native Poland and internationally.
