Straw *sodai* (traditional hanging straw ornaments) represent one of the most beautiful forms of Lithuanian folk decorative art. A *sodas* is a lightweight, symmetrical, geometric, three-dimensional structure crafted from straw that rotates when suspended by a thread. Sodai are believed to reflect the pattern of the universe and are associated with well-being and spirituality. They are hung over the cradles of babies, the bride and groom at weddings, and as decorative features in homes year round. The tradition of creating these ornaments—which is still actively practiced today—was inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2023.
