Street photography in the humanist tradition. Algimantas Kezys was born in Lithuania in 1928, fled to the West prior to the Soviet occupation and then moved to the US in 1950 to eventually be ordained as a Jesuit priest. He took up photography, and in 1965 had his first exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. He has since exhibited widely, been collected by a number of museums and had 21 books of his work published. Now a former Jesuit, Kezys operates a small gallery in Stickney, IL, that represents Lithuanian artists worldwide and publishes books on art, religion, and photography. This is his first book and the printing is gorgeous. Photographs by Algimantas Kezys; essay by Bruno Markaitis; postscript by Hugh Edwards; note by John B. Amberg. First edition, later printing. 68 b&w plates; 9 x 11 inches.
